CHIMERAS

$
0
0

The Chimera according to Greek mythology, was a monstrous fire-breathing hybrid creature of Lycia in Asia Minor, composed of the parts of more than one animal. It is usually depicted as a lion, with the head of a goat protruding from its back, and a tail that might end with a snake’s head.

With animals, chimeras are the result of a genetic anomaly – one animal (like the dog below)– has cells derived from two different cell lines ( a black Labrador and a yellow Labrador). Brindle coloring in horses is extremely rare and in many cases is linked to spontaneous chimerism, resulting in an animal with two sets of DNA, , with the brindle pattern being an expression of two different sets of equine coat color genes in one horse.

In 2011, Amaretto brought us their own version of the Chimera Brindle horse. The Black/Platinum Chimera Brindle, Brown/Red Chimera Brindle, Brown/Tan Chimera Brindle, Platinum/Black Chimera Brindle, Red/Brown Chimera Brindle and Tan/Brown Chimera Brindle were one set of many exciting possible Non-Starter coats that could come from breeding starter horses. You had a chance at one of these exciting Non-Starter coated Chimera Brindles by breeding any horse with a starter horse or by breeding together two starter horses.
These coats CAN be passed on.

The Chimera Brindle Horse coats are now out to pasture, which means they will no longer drop from new starters, havens or LEs, but they can still be bred from existing lines.

Airs Above The Ground

Speaking in chat the other day, and talking about nostalgic memories of days gone by brought to mind when i used to watch parades and wait with anticipation for the mounted horse groups. One of my favorite groups was the Lipizzans. Those beautiful white and grey horses with their flowing manes and tails, the elaborate uniforms of the riders, the majestic choreographed movements of the both were a treasured memory, altho I didn’t get to see the full performance until decades later. Lipizzans have a rich history as a breed. The Lipizzan, or Lipizzaner, is a breed of horse originating in Lipica in Slovenia. Established in 1580, the Lipica stud farm is the world’s oldest continuously operating stud farm.
The Lipizzan breed dates back to the 16th century, when it was developed with the support of the Habsburg nobility. The breed takes its name from one of the earliest stud farms established, located near the village of Lipica (spelled “Lipizza” in Italian), in modern-day Slovenia. The breed has been endangered numerous times by warfare sweeping Europe, including during the War of the First Coalition, World War I, and World War II. The rescue of the Lipizzans during World War II by American troops was made famous by the Disney movie Miracle of the White Stallions. The breed has also starred or played supporting roles in many movies, TV shows, books, and other media.

Aside from the rare solid-colored horse (usually bay or black), most Lipizzans are gray. Like all gray horses, they have black skin, dark eyes, and as adult horses, a white hair coat. Gray horses, including Lipizzans, are born with a pigmented coat—in Lipizzans, foals are usually bay or black—and become lighter each year as the graying process takes place, with the process being complete between 6 and 10 years of age. Lipizzans are not actually true white horses, but this is a common misconception. A white horse is born white and has unpigmented skin.

Until the 18th century, Lipizzans had other coat colors, including dun, bay, chestnut, black, piebald, and skewbald. However, gray is a dominant gene. Gray was the color preferred by the royal family, so the color was emphasized in breeding practices. Thus, in a small breed population when the color was deliberately selected as a desirable feature, it came to be the color of the overwhelming majority of Lipizzan horses. However, it is a long-standing tradition for the Spanish Riding School to have at least one bay Lipizzan stallion in residence, and this tradition is continued through the present day.

The moves the Lipizzans are famous for, the “airs above the ground” are the difficult “high school” dressage movements which include the levade, the courbette, the croupade, the piaffe, and the mezair. These moves were considered to be moves used by war horses when in a battle, to help their riders.

On September 24, 2016 Amaretto released the Amaretto Comeback Packs!! These packs included one of each Comeback Lipizzan – Amaretto Red and Comeback Lipizzan – Amaretto Orange Horses. In October, with the 5.5 update they brought out new starter horses which included the Champagne, Ginger, Silver, and Cocoa Lippizzans, follow by the Christmas Pine Lipizzan in December. All of these starter coats could pass their coats except the Christmas Pine!

In September of 2018, they brought out the familiar white coat of the Lipizzan with the Showhorse. From September 1st to September 30th if you bred any 2 Lipizzans together you could have a chance at getting a Lipizzan Showhorse!
The Lipizzan Showhorse can NOT pass their coat.
However, the Divinity Eye and the Divinity Saddle DO have the ability to pass.

I hope everyone enjoyed a little background on a fine historic horse. Happy Breeding!

Extend Breeding With The Extenze Pill

$
0
0

Happy Hump Day Fellow Breeders!

Have you ever wished you could breed your prized Amaretto horse one more time after it has retired? You can with the Amaretto Extenze Pill!

How does it work?

Introduced in April 2019, the Extenze Pill is a one-time use consumable that will add 7 days of breeding to any retired horse. The horse cannot have had a Forever Foal used to pet it.

Let me repeat that…

  • Can only be used on retired horses
  • Horses can not be petted
  • Can only be used once per horse

To use, rez the Extenze Pill package to the ground and open it. The contents will appear in a folder in your inventory. Now, from the folder, rez the Extenze Pill next to the horse you wish to add breeding time to and then click the horse for their main menu. Go to the consumables option on the menu, find Extenze, and click it. Once the horse stats have been updated, the consumable will disappear.

Tips for use!

Time is of the essence! To make the most out of the extra time, be sure to do the following prior to using the Extenze Pill on your horse:

  • Heal the horse, if sick. Do this by using a healing kit or feed it breeder food for 3 days. It must be on breeder food!
  • Make sure the horse has 75% happiness or higher. Do this by giving it salt at least 2 days before you use the Extenze. This will allow it to start gaining fervor as soon as its breeding time has been extended.
  • Make sure its intended mate is ready to breed.

The effects of the Extenze Pill will expire after 7 days. This should give you ample time to breed a female horse once and a male horse 3 times, provided you’ve prepped the horse as suggested in the tips above.

Please note, as stated, the Extenze Pill can only be used once per horse. If you are buying a horse to extend, there is no way to know prior to purchase if this consumable has been used by a previous owner. If it has, when you try to use the Extenze Pill, it will not work.

That extra breeding cycle may drop you a coveted Charmed! Good luck!

Until next time…HAPPY BREEDING!

Exmoor Ponies

The Exmoor pony is a horse breed native to the British Isles, where some still roam as semi-feral livestock on Exmoor, a large area of moorland in Devon and Somerset in southwest England. The Exmoor has been given “endangered” status by the Rare Breeds Survival Trust, and “threatened” status by The Livestock Conservancy. It is one of the British Isles’ mountain and moorland pony breeds, having conformation similar to that of other cold-weather-adapted pony breeds. The Exmoor pony is hardy and used for a variety of equestrian activities. In its free-roaming state, the breed’s presence on Exmoor contributes to the conservation and management of several natural pasture habitats.

When the version 4.0 Horse update came out on September 9, 2013 these exciting new coats were hidden in new starters. The Black Exmoor Pony, Blue Exmoor Pony, Brown Exmoor Pony, Gold Exmoor Pony, Red Exmoor Pony and Tan Exmoor Pony are one set of many exciting possible Non-Starter coats that can come from breeding “Starter Horses”.
You can have a chance at one of these exciting Non-Starter coated Exmoor Pony by breeding any horse with a starter horse or by breeding together two starter horses.
These coats CAN be passed on.

From August 5, 2014 until September 5, 2014 you could breed any color Spotted Amaretto and any color Exmoor Pony together for the chance at the Spotted Exmoor Twist Coat. The Spotted Exmoor Coat DOES have the ability to pass. The Back to School Eye DOES have the ability to pass.

Another Exmoor coat is the Albino Exmoor. From breeding any two full siblings, you could get an Albino Exmoor, as long as at least one of the siblings was an Exmoor. The Albino Exmoor Pony coat does NOT pass. However, breeding an Albino Exmoor Pony with it’s sibling does slightly increase your chance for another Albino or Albino Exmoor Pony .

I hope you enjoy breeding these adorable Exmoor Coats.

Wild Hair Library!

Yet another Manic Monday and we all survived! Yay!

Today I wanted to talk about a new section Bazza and Marku set up on their website The Amaretto Family (The Amaretto Family is not ran by Amaretto, it’s ran by Marku and Bazza.)
Bazza and and Marku have noticed at the Amaretto community meetings and in the groups that a lot of you would like some kind of Wild Hair wiki page.

Although you can use the official wiki to look up the coat and check out it’s hair when trying to find out what a wild hair looks like, we understand that some of the pictures don’t show the hairs in as much detail as you would like so we decided to add a section to our site where YOU the breeders can take pictures of wild hairs that you have in world and add your own Wild hairs to the library as long as it hasnt been submitted before.

This means all of us can compile our own “wiki” of wildhairs.

You can check out the Wild Hair Library here:

https://forum.themysticalamarettofamily.com/forums/wild-hairs.39/

To post one, make sure you are signed up and signed into the site. All you need to do is first search if the hair you want to post is already posted by typing the name of the wild hair into the search bar at the top and clicking enter, if it doesnt come up. You are good to go!

Then just go to the section the hair should be in, such as Limited Edition, or Crazed, etc and read the requirements for the wild hair submission at the top of that page to make sure your picture matches the criteria. Click “Start New Topic”, input the Wild Hair name as it is in the stats in-world in the title bar, then upload the picture and submit your post for review.

Once Marku or Bazza checks it over it should appear in the library relatively quickly.

Please note this website is not owned or maintained by Amaretto! I know a lot of you guys use this great tool so keep it up! This is Ava over and out! Happy breeding everyone!

Pottok Ponies

The Pottok or Pottoka, is an endangered, semi-feral breed of pony native to the Pyrenees of the Basque Country in France and Spain. It is considered an ancient breed of horse, particularly well adapted to the harsh mountain areas it traditionally inhabits.
Once common, it is endangered through habitat loss, mechanization and crossbreeding but efforts are increasingly made to safeguard the future of this breed. It is considered iconic by the Basque people.
Their adaptation to mountain life and coloration made them ideal for use by smugglers in former times. From the 16th Century onwards, they became popular as circus horses but also as pit ponies in France and Britain. Today, they are in demand as children’s ponies because they adapt well to domestication.
Traditionally they were solid color coats, but piebalds were bred for circus use.

When the version 5.5 Horse update came out on October 7,2016 these exciting new coats were hidden in new starters. The Pottok Ponys are one set of many exciting possible Non-Starter coats that can come from breeding “Starter Horses”.
You can have a chance at one of these exciting Non-Starter Pottok Pony by breeding any horse with a starter horse or by breeding together two starter horses.
These coats CAN be passed on.

Starting on April 1, 2017 Amaretto announced the release of all new Birthstone Flower Horses. From October 1st 2017 until October 31st, 2017 when you bred any horse with a Marigold Opal Eye to any color Pottok Pony you had the chance at a Marigold Opal Pottok Pony! This beautiful coat DID NOT have the ability to pass, but the all new eye DID. So much like the show horses of the past, these beauties were fun to breed for!

When Amaretto brought the Showhorses back in 2018, From January 1st to January 31st if you bred any 2 Pottok Pony together you had a chance at getting a Showcase Pottok Pony! The Showcase Pottok Pony could be randomly birthed by breeding together any two horses that had Pottok Pony coats of any color. The Showcase Pottok Pony can NOT pass their coat. However, the Charming Eye and the Charming Saddle DO have the ability to pass.

Hope you enjoy your Pottok Ponies, along with a little of the history of this old breed.

If you read this entire post, be sure and wish Avalon Crystal a Happy Birthday!
